Notti Italiane Weekend @ Caffeine&Machine.
Nowhere does cars and bikes quite like Italy. It’s the home of machinery with charismatic engines, gorgeous styling and just that little bit of, erm… character.
For decades, aspirational vehicles at the absolute zenith of performance and style have come out of the flat expanses of the Po Valley, home to Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pagani, and Ducati, to name a few. Then, there’s the vehicles critically important in mobilising Italy’s masses during the 20th century – the likes of the Piaggio Vespa and original Fiat 500 provided affordable, utilitarian transport for millions, and did it with a level of charm and style than only the Italians could imbue them with.
In between these polar opposite ends of the spectrum, companies like Alfa Romeo and Lancia have been there, providing deliciously left-field alternatives to the norm. Even the names are special – only an Italian company could call a car something as basic as the ‘Four-door’, and wind up making something that sounds as fantastic as the Quattroporte.
All this is before you get into the great carrozzerie, whose genius stylists have spent decades producing stunning designs for not just Italian manufacturers, but car companies around the world.
